Planning Your Time as a Student for the Best Results

Learning how to manage your time effectively as a student is one of the best ways to ensure that you get good results. A last-minute scramble to complete assignments or learn for tests can be very stressful and lead to disappointment. Good time management skills help you to plan ahead, become more organized and learn more effectively. It can also help you to strike a good balance between work and play. 

Create a master schedule

Creating a master schedule will help you to prioritize projects and give you a structure to help you stay on track. Look at the due dates of all upcoming assignments and record them on your schedule. 

Using a different color for each subject will help you to follow it more easily. On your schedule, you also need to allocate time for socializing and make sure you get enough sleep so you can stay focused and alert in your study times.

Eliminate distractions

The place where you choose to study can make a difference. Everyone is different and some students find studying in the library distracting, whereas others find it helps them to focus. Studying with friends is more productive for some and others find it limits their productivity. 

Exercise to clear your head

Sometimes spending too much time over your books without taking a break is not productive. You may find you’re daydreaming half of the time. Exercise, even a small amount like a short walk, can help you to clear your head and you will find your focus is greatly improved when you return to your books. 

A 10-minute run can be very effective as this aerobic exercise will increase the oxygen flow to your brain and release endorphins which make you feel more positive. Exercising is a great way to keep stress at bay. 

Get enough sleep

Tiredness can be a problem when trying to learn. If you plan on learning until midnight every night to make sure you keep up, you’re likely to run out of steam. Burning the candle at both ends and not getting enough sleep will be counterproductive. 

Try to set a regular bedtime and stick to it rather than staying up half the night. Not getting enough sleep has significant effects on your health, from affecting your immune response to making you feel unmotivated and sleepy during the day.
